Mark this day on your calendar and look back fondly at it. This is the day that everything changed in the automotive world. This is the day the EV finally stood firmly on two feet and shouted into the heavens it’s arrival.
Oh there is chorus of you out there screaming at me about Tesla this, Lucid that and Rivian w00ts…but let me be completely frank:
All of those manufacturers are vaporware, they are a flight of fancy. They all exist without the large scale manufacturing know-how to produce a vehicle without it looking like an angry 3 year old mashed it together and/or being in the realm of affordability for the average consumer. For the first point, look at Lucid Motors and Rivian, their entire portfolio consists of vehicles priced out of the majority of the buying public…if anything it makes both makes a niche brand at the very least. For the second point, Tesla; the Model 3 has the build quality, refinement and reliability that would make the malaise era GM blush with the S, X and Y not far behind. Add that on top of it being owned by a megalomaniac, really doesn’t help matters at all.
So who do we have to rely on to bring forth this EV future that has been thrust upon us? The stalwarts of this automotive industry like Ford. The titans of this industry have the aforementioned scalability knowledge to bring forth a vehicle that is first and foremost, built well and yet revolutionary with a price that anyone can afford!
Which finally brings us to this Lightning because if you’re going to usher in the general populace into the EVdom might as well do it with the number one selling vehicle in the entire damn world!
Ford didn’t stop at just throwing some electric motors in the F150 and called it a day…the Lightning is as a thorough reworking of the entire vehicle as it can be without starting anew. The feature list is exhaustive and at the risk of missing something, just click on this link. Regardless, everything that makes the Ford F150 the best selling vehicle in the world is here in the Lightning, from usability, affordability, practicality, reliability and heck approachability is here in the Lightning. There is no relearning of basic controls, there is no re-wiring of your internal GPS because of range anxiety, heck there is no fear due to Mother Nature because this damn thing can power your ENTIRE HOUSE!
Oh and it can go 0-60 in 4.1 seconds, has a frunk that is bigger than most standard trunks and it’s so easy to drive that your elderly family members can do so with a huge grin on their faces!
So how do I sum up the 2022 Ford Lightning? The most important and momental vehicle that I have ever driven.
This XC90 has been with us for over 7 years. But in all of those years, this 2022 XC90 proves that it had that original recipe almost perfected to begin with…but it now adds some cayenne pepper in the mix!
