While everyone is singing the praises of the excellent GV70, there is another vehicle that the world should notice. It is this one! The 2022 Genesis G80 isn’t just a good car…it’s a gauntlet thrown down from the Genesis brand to the ‘old guard’.

No longer is Genesis relegated to the afterthoughts of the buying public. No longer is Genesis playing second fiddle to another car maker. This G80 is everything that the Genesis brand has accomplished, learned and fought for into one vehicle.

Everything from ride quality, noise (or lack of it), precision, handling, comfort, interior quality down to the way it looks…is class leading.

Let’s go ahead and break it down!

The Great

Look at it!

Look at it…from the inside!

Ride Quality

Look at it!

Is this one of the best looking cars on the road today? Yes. Even with a grille the size of a house…the G80 exudes beauty from every crevice. It’s modern and yet somehow classically handsome.

Look at it…from the inside!

The interior of this G80 is the best interior from a Korean automaker…ever.

Everything feels substantial, heavy and well expensive. Everything dial, switch and touchpoint just feels marvelous and looks outstanding.

From the 3D gauges to the clever HVAC controls to the actual physical beautiful buttons galore…this interior is one of the best on the road today.

Ride Quality

This G80 has a better ride than the equivalent BMW, Mercedes, Audi and Lexus.

Yes. It is that good.

It balances the act between immediate response and cushy ride to such an exacting degree, that someone needs to make a mathematical formula out of the suspension setup and teach it in Engineering School.

Hell, you can make entire curriculum out of how the G80 nails it and how everyone errr does not.

The Good

NVH

Steering

NVH

For those not in the know, NVH stands for, Noise Vibration and Harshness. An encompassing term to help discern well overall refinement of a vehicle. In the case of this G80, the NVH is nil. Nada. Zilch.

Nary a quiver can be felt throughout the chassis as this G80 is just a rolling testament to solidity.

Steering

As with the suspension tuning…the team who developed the steering needs to teach a masterclass on steering feel. Because this G80 has one of the best steering feel in the entire segment.

It’s so quick and direct that the front is on the verge of darty (in a very good way). The G80 just responds immediately to any input to the wheel but without it feeling ‘nervous’. Pair that with actual feel, the G80 instantly has the driver to car connection that has been missing in this segment for decades!

The Bad

Errrrr….uhhh….hmmmm

I got nothing

The Ugly

See above

Nada

Zero

Overall:

To others, the Genesis brand officially ‘arrived’ many moons ago. To me, it didn’t officially ‘arrive’ until now. Because now, Genesis can be mentioned in the same breathe as it’s German and Japanese rivals without saying ‘but’. There is no ‘but’ anymore…there is only Genesis. Tremendous job on the G80, just freakin’ tremendous!
