18x9 +35et Enkei RPF1 with 235/40/18 Michelin Pilot Sport 4S Tires

Yes, I got wheels…why you ask?

  1. I physically, mentally, biologically and possible sexually…cannot own a vehicle that looks like someone else’s. I HAVE to be different. Yes…it’s a complex that I have but it’s a complex that I enjoy having!

  2. The 19 inch wheels (Pretorias) ride absolutely like dog fecal matter. It’s jittery, nervous and a bit ‘crashy’ over anything more than a pebble

So…that lead me to ‘downsizing’ to a set of 18s. I landed on the RPF1s due to their extraordinary reputation, weight and country of manufacture (Japan). I wanted to a set of wheels that thoroughly engulfed the wheelbay and that had an appropriate set of meat on the tires.

Finding the appropriate width and offset along with tire size was an exercise in modern day internet frustration. The second you find a piece of information telling you one thing…you find something that tells you the opposite. The second you find a piece of information that tells you that information is accurate is the second you find another post that you’d be an idiot to do it. Welcome to the internet folks!

So, throwing caution to the wind…I said ‘eff it’ and used my gut to land on the 18x9 +35 sizing. After perusing several pictures of other Golf Rs, the 235/40 size seemed to be a perfect blend of that aforementioned meat, style and substance.

Sent an email over to the fine folks over at Nemesis Autosports to place the order and a few days later…the Rolf is transformed! Not just visually though, the ride quality is outstanding! So much in fact, that a 300 mile round trip to Midpond Raceway and back home…was just damn comfortable!

Oh and it looks great to boot :)
