This is the hotly anticipated Ford Maverick. How hotly anticipated you ask? Well, there is so much of a backlog right now, that Ford stop accepting orders for 2022. So if you want one, then good luck finding one since Ford is stating 2023 is the most likely date for new orders.
If you do happen to find one, then buy it! This is one of the best small pickups on the market today. It is so good in fact that it does everything that it begs the question
“‘Why would you get another small pickup?’”

Gas Mileage
In our week of testing, we achieved a stellar 34.6 MPG! That’s city and highway! With a heavy foot! This hybrid powertrain is just plain amazing! Sure the CVT sucks the life out of it but it’s rather punchy…oh and WE GOT 34.6 MPG!!!
Refinement
I dare you to find another small pickup that matches the civility of the Ford Maverick. Nothing comes close. It’s quiet at all speeds, seats are surprisingly comfortable, the cabin in airy and the suspension tuning is absolutely perfect! Combining fantastic on road dynamics with a lush ride over uneven terrain, the Maverick conquers all!
Steering
Yes, the Maverick is based on the Ford Escape but with that comes the coup de gras of the Escape…it’s steering. The Escape has been blessed with a steering that is full of feedback, easy to modulate and quick to react. This steering in the Maverick is no different, which gives the Maverick confidence like no other small pickup on the road today.

Ride Quality
All the loveliness that comes with a 4 wheel independent suspension is found here in the Maverick. It feels agile, lithe and has a tossability that no other small pickup can match. Add that with remarkable manners over all types of pavements, the Maverick is just a joy behind the wheel
Infotainment
It’s Ford SYNC. Not much to say, except to say it’s awesome in this and every other application it happens to reside in…
Room
Yes it’s a small pickup but riding on an unibody platform gives generous space fore and aft in the Maverick. Fitting four adults comfortably or two adults along with two small children in the back….one is never wanting for more room.
The Bad
Styling
Styling
Don’t get me wrong. It’s not ugly by any means but it ain’t the prettiest thing on the road. The headlamps are comically large in person and their design looks like someone glued to gigantic Big Macs to the front of the truck. The rest of the design is just meh. Not terrible by any means but nothing that strikes a cord to make one go ‘0o0o look! A Ford Maverick!’
The Ugly
CVTerrible
CVTravesty
Unfortunately that wonderfully efficient and punchy drivetrain is saddled with a soul sucking CVT unit. Which makes the Maverick just drone endlessly and sucks any potential enjoyment in anything more than 3/10ths of driving.
Overall:
The Ford Maverick strikes the ideal balance of looking like a truck, feeling like a truck, having the utilitarian practicality of a truck without any of the drawbacks of a truck! So you can park it in your garage, get close to 40 MPG, take corners with confidence and have a downright pleasant driving experience behind the wheel.
