The Genesis G70 has been with us for a bit now and and while the previous design looked good…it never stood out. This new sheet metal is different, no longer relegating itself as a ‘sleeper’, this new design screams out style from every angle! From the stack headlights to the curvaceous bodyline to the stacked tail lights, the G70 is a rolling tribute to automotive design. It goes without saying that this G70 is one of the best looking vehicles on the road today. Easily outshining it’s conservative German rivals and equaling the gorgeous redesigned Lexus IS.

It isn’t all beauty and no brawn. From it’s torquey engine, to it’s playful chassis down to it’s attractive infotainment…it is tremendous.

Let’s go ahead and break it down:

The Great

Obviously…it’s the styling. The G70 is one of the best looking vehicles on the road today. Easily out styling it’s Germanic rivals and equaling the Lexus IS in terms of the best looking sports sedan.

But let us zoom out a bit and look at the Genesis as a whole…their entire lineup is filled with exquisite looking vehicles! There isn’t a bad looking one in the lot! Now that is an achievement in and of itself!

Moving on from style, the updated infotainment system is one of the best on the road today…it somehow relaxes you as you use it instead of stresses you. From it’s calming graphics, to it’s ‘mood’ modes, to it’s UI…it’s fantastic.

The Good

The chassis is a playful little thing and pair that with direct and tactile steering..makes the G70 a fantastic backroad hauler. A mere squeeze of your right foot will elicit tail light happiness at a moment’s notice. It’s just fracking fun!

The 3.3 liter twin turbo V6 doesn’t let you down either. It isn’t perfect (more on that below) but when it’s on point, it will delivery rear tire roasting torque for days!

The Bad

That aforementioned 3.3 Twin Turbo V6 does suffer from an uneven power delivery. It’s rather errr…surgey; bobbing boost up and down through the RPM range. It frankly feels like the factory wastegate maybe too weak…

There is also a roughness to it that is missing from it’s rivals. The 3.3t is a fine engine if you isolate it from it’s competitors but hopping from a M340i or a S4, you can certainley feel the difference in drivetrain refinement.

You can also feel the difference in accerelation as well. While the 3.3t will deliver all the acceleration you will ever need…the Germans are significantly faster. The M340i is faster by a full second to 60 and through the 1/4 mile. The S4 and the C43 are not far off behind with both of them being over 1/2 a second quicker through 60 and the 1/4. The German’s engines are also smoother, sound better and offer better gas mileage to boot.

If you want use the infotainment as a touchscreen, it maybe ill advised, the reach from the driver’s side takes long stretch of the arm. Just use the knob for safety sake.

The Ugly

Looking at our YouTube comments on my thoughts on the GV70 seats…this is going to be interesting…

The G70’s seat’s looks are in direct disporption to it’s comfort.

In other words, as good as they are to look at…they are equally as uncomfortable.

Now I will hide underneath a blanket for the Genesis fandom to attack

The Overall

The 2022 Genesis G70 is a rolling beauty with an energetic chassis, tactile steering and a torquey engine. It is matched with a lovely interior and a fantastic UI…what is their more to ask from a sports sedan?

…well I would ask for more comfortable seats :)
