So, I was going to go into a long diatribe on the state of the enthuasist market and how we enthuasists love to complain but never ending up buying squat. But, to be honest, it was mentally draining to write. So I’m just going give a brief breakdown on the updates for the 2021 model year Supra.

More Horsepower

More Torque

More Yousef happy.

Let’s breakdown the Toyota Supra:

The Great

The curvaceous goodness of the new Supra is ‘bite the back of your hand’ good. If you can distill the essence of Salma Hayek into a vehicle you have this Toyota Supra (and the LC500). Curvy, voluptuous and just plain absolutely stunning to behold. The MKV Supra evokes the beloved MKIV without going full retro…it’s the perfect blend of yesteryear design cues but 21st century design. It’s beautiful.

The Good

The BMW sourced (if you listen closely now…you can hear the internet audibly groan) B58 is a gem of an engine. For those who complain about this engine…are those who have not driven a vehicle with this engine. It is teaming with power from throttle tip in to infinity but it is easy to drive. It is teaming with enough torque to pull out tree trunks but yet it is smooth to drive. It will blast past most anything on the highway and yet it will get close to 27 mpg. It is a work of mechanical art.

The Bad

Yes I know the interior is lifted from BMW but problem is that is lifted from the old BMW 2 series. The 2 series was never known for stellar interior appointments and it clearly shows here. The plastics are hollow and brittle feeling, the infotainment screen is small and overall the cabin is a bit claustrophobic.

The Ugly

It’s been two years since this iteration of the Supra came out and that means it’s been two years having it’s largest issue still not rectified. The painful, ear drum bursting, migraine inducing, traumatic wind buffeting. Rolling with the windows down in a Supra is a sheer act of masochism. Oh sure, there are aftermarket options that can fix it but it never should have left the factory floor with this problem and its continued existence is bit appalling.

Overall:

The Toyota Supra, even with its flaws, is still the best sports car you can buy under $60,000. Nothing can touch it’s speed, handling, braking and looks. It is still an achievement. Long live the Supra.
