The Ford Bronco is one of the vehicles that brings a smile to everyone around it. Especially if it’s a bright color, like our Hot Pepper Red, children of all ages point and go ‘wow’. It’s just one of those vehicles that makes the world around it just a little bit happier. Why you ask? It’s hard to pintpoint but it could be the retro inspired design but with a 21st flair. Could be the daytime running lights look ‘happy’ and bit like Wall-E. Could be because it’s not a Wrangler and therefore not subject to Jeep Brodom. Or it could be because it’s just a good truck. Which it is.

It rides well, it’s easy to drive, it’s roomy, it’s strangely fuel efficient, it’s quick, it handles well for it size and it brakes well…so it does the whole car thing pretty darn well! There is also varierty. So much in fact it’s can be described as the automotive equivalent of Baskin Robins. For everyone out there, there is a ‘flavor’ of Bronco for you.

You want a fuel efficient, small crossover, that actually has a personality, that can still hold decent amount of cargo and people? Get a Bronco Sport. You want something with a bit more attitude and more ‘off-roady’ nature? Get a base Bronco. You want the offroad looks and equipment but civilized road manners? There is the Sasquatch for you. You want a bit more than that? Get the Sasquatch Big Bend (pictured here). You want to haul ass over any type of terrain? You want to scare your passengers? You that sense of invincibility? Get a Braptor! (Bronco Raptor).

You want the best Trunk or Treat mobile? Get a Bronco of any kind! Seriously. Ford was gracious enough to loan us another Bronco for this year’s trunk or treat and let me tell you…it’s perfect. Especially in the orangey red color that our test unit came in! The completely square rear cargo area is the perfect playground to let your inner imagination run wild! Last year we did a Moana theme and this year we did a Beetlejuice theme. Both wow’d every passerby!

Last year’s (2023) Bronco Trunk or Treat Theme

This year’s Bronco Trunk or Treat!

Let’s go ahead and break it down:

The Great

Looks

I mean come on. Especially with the offroad paraphernalia, the Bronco exudes a presence that few vehicles on the road can come close to matching. It’s aggresive without the machismo, it’s ‘bright eyed’ without looking like it’s grinning, it’s somehow boxy without looking like a box on wheels. It’s huge and yet extremely easy to drive. There is not a single person who doesn’t love a Bronco. If you happen to be that single person, congratulations…you’re a weirdo.

Easy just plain easy

Ford can somehow engineer a gigantic vehicle to drive as easy as a compact crossover. From the F-250 Super Duty to this Bronco Sasquatch Big Bend, the only intimidation factor is physically stepping up into it. That’s it. It’s easy to see out of every angle, the steering is quick enough to make it easy to park without being twitchy and hard to center on the road. The brakes are easy to modulate and can stop on a dime.

The Good

— Drivetrain

The 2.4 Liter Turbo 4 Cylinder in this 2024 Ford Bronco Sasquatch Big Bend is a sea of torque. Making X at a very low X RPM, it just shoves the Bronco without worry. Paired to the corporate 10 speed auto, that can downshift right at the meaty torque range, you’re never wanting for more power.

Strangely efficient

I don’t know how. In our week of testing, with includes city and highway driving, we averaged a pretty outstanding 17.8 MPG! For something that is over 7 feet wide weighing over 5100 pounds…that is feat of engineering magic!

The Bad

— Running boards

For something this tall and expensive, should be standard

— The Gauges

The combination analog and digital cluster look ancient and squished together.

The Ugly

— Ventiated Seats!

For $55,000, I want ventilated seats damnit to hell.

The Overall

The 2024 Ford Bronco Sasquatch Big Bend…takes the battle to the Wrangler and kicks it’s ass. Now the true test would be against the new 4Runner.
