Interior LED Upgrade

Moar Light Please. **Not paid, compensated or high-fived**

So the modding bug didn’t keep away long at all. Within a week of getting my Golf R, I realized three things:

  1. I miss having a sunroof

  2. I miss having ambient lighting everywhere

  3. The factory interior LEDs are pitiful

It’s not like I want the cabin to be lit up like an early 2000s rave but I do like the atmosphere of open lighting at night. Now, since I don’t want to take a hacksaw to my roof, the only other option is installing better lighting in the Golf R cabin.

Having some great experiences in the past, I ordered the footwell LED kit from deautoLED which comes with a brighter front footwell LED and an LED strip to attach under the seats for the rear. I also ordered their hatch kit since in VW’s infinite wisdom, the hatch has a halogen that looks awful.

Install was easy peasy. Just remove the front LED footwell light, install the new one, run the wires to be back seat and while you can use the glue to attach it to the rear bracket, I used zip ties and that’s it!

For the hatch, it’s as easy taking out the light fixture, swapping out the bulb and reinstalling.

It truly helps transform the cabin!
