DeChrome!

If you have followed any of my builds, you probably know that I have an unnatural hatred for chrome trim. On most cars (other than full sized trucks) it looks gaudy.

The S8, unfortunately, came with chrome trim trim and a combination of plastidip and vinyl wrap, eliminated that shiny nastiness.

The Plastidip that was used was from the ‘go-to’ source for automotive ‘dipping’, dipyourcar.com. Unfortunately, they are pushing their own blend of dip called Hyperdip and to be honest…it’s just not good. The beauty of PlastiDip is as long as you add multiple layers, it’s pretty much idiot proof. It takes no effort to build out a smooth rubbery surface in a matter of minutes. If you’re impatient, as long as the previous layer is dry-ish, you can get away by slapping on another on top.

Hyperdip, on the other hand, is the opposite. It requires optimal humidity levels, temperature and each layer HAS to be bone dry. So a ten minute jobs, takes about an hour. Which wouldn’t be bad if the results were truly awesome…but they’re not. Hyperdip is just not worth the added cost…just stick with regular ole plastidip.

Now, obviously, for a truly OE like finish…just suck it up and pay for vinyl application. After numerous tries with dip on the window trim, gave up and got it wrapped. Results speak for themselves.
