The Ford F-250’s importance to not just Ford but the entire country cannot be overstated. Think about it:

What truck do you see the most at construction, public works, utilities work, safety and anything else related to infrastructure?

It’s the F-250

The F-250 can be described as the literal running gear of America. Anything and everything related to continuation of the American way of life is/was and will be carried on the back of a Ford F-250. From fixing pot holes, installing generators, building skyscrapers to paving a street…there is always numerous F-250s working hand-in-hand with its driver’s.

So to say the Ford F-250 is important is a bit of an understatement. It’s a vehicle that has to be ‘right’. Ford doesn’t have a choice in the matter.

Let’s go ahead and break it down:

The Great

Ease of Use: The F-250 is brimming with tech but unlike every other automaker, the tech is so easy to use that it requires no second guessing. Every control you would need to change is easily done via an actual switch or knob!

You want to hook up a tow rig? Easy, turn this knob. You want to see if you’re about to plow into a boulder? Easy, push this physical button. You want to put it 4-Lo? Easy! Turn this knob. Heck, you want to make the cabin cooler? Lo and behold…turn this knob!

Drivability: The F-250 is gargantuan. It towers over people, objects and everything else short of a mountain. Climbing into it, you would be forgiven into being intimidated. But, trust me on this, don’t worry. It takes all of 10 feet to fully acclimatize yourself to the F-250.

Yes, it’s still huge but the way the steering, throttle and brakes work in unison with the excellent visibility make this as easy to drive as it’s F-150 cousin. You don’t have to rewire you brain to adjust for it size, the F-250 can be driven with two fingers on the wheel.

The Good

Looks: The Silverado HD looks atrocious, the Ram 2500’s front end is either bling to the point of ostentatiousness. You can get the ‘black out’ package but then you realize that the front end looks like the Pringle’s man. And that is something you can never ‘unsee’.

The F250 on the other hand, actually looks….good. Sure it’s still a slab sided like a Peterbuilt but overall it’s the best looking out the entire lot.

Logical: Everything from the seat controls to the 4 wheel drive selector is perfectly placed. It’s a logical, unassuming and just brilliantly simple layout. It just works.

The Bad

Steering: It’s the old tried and true recirculating ball setup and it works in rugged applications the F-250 is designed for but on the street you just end up spinning the wheel ad nauseam to get it to turn. Then when you’re done, you have to spin it the other way with another billion rotations to get it back to center. Needless to say, it gets a bit tedious after awhile.

Ride: Don’t get me wrong, overall the F-250 ride excellent. But, if it’s unloaded with weight and you happen to drive over a rough pit of road…it will jitter, bounce and vibrate to an extent that will cause your teeth to chatter.

The Ugly

Gasser: The 7.3 Liter V8 is a smooth beast of a thing. But, highway passing requires your foot through the firewall and a prayer. Add that to the hilarious single digit gas mileage we got during testing…it isn’t a good option. Get the diesel option and you won’t regret it.

The two diesel options net you from 1050 ft/lbs of torque all the way up to 1200 ft/lbs!!! With a much faster 0-60 time and 20 MPG on the highway, just get the diesel.

The Overall

The 2024 Ford F-250 Super Duty proves to the world that if something that needs to be built, fixed, engineered or maintained…it’s better done in a Ford Super Duty
