I love this thing.

LOVE IT.

Do you know why?

It does what most EVs fail to do…

It makes you laugh at the ridiculousness of it.

It’s a bright yellow, racing stripped adorned, lifted, massively wing’d, rally fog light equipped….EV!

The Mach E Rally isn’t just some sticker’d up marketing gimmick from Ford. They took a page out of the Porsche/Lambo/Leh Keen playbook and a legitimate rally machine:

  • Using a Mach E GT Performance as a base

    • Lifted the suspension

    • Retuned the adaptive suspension with a dedicated ‘Rally mode’

    • Added skidplates underneath

    • Bolted on offroad wheels and more aggressive tires

    • Bolted on a WRC inspired rear wing

    • Added Rally inspired Foglights

    • Added aggressive, hard backed front seats

Walking up to the Mach E Rally just makes you smile and driving it makes you laugh out loud. Because this is an EV you don’t carefully teeter over speedbumps or pot holes, this is an EV you boud over anything in and keep on truckin’ away!

This is an EV that makes you look at an empty gravel lot and go: Why the frack not?

As you Colin McRae yourself into an impending Trespassing ticket, you can have solace in the fact this is an EV that looks better caked in gravel dust and dirt. The white wheels inspire late 90s Rally Inspired tomfoolery and we are all better because of it. Hell, you feel better because of it. Heck, people around you gawk and smile because of this car!

Seriously. I have never had an EV I have tested that I have been asked about this most. From people literally running across the street, to people yelling at me at traffic lights and giving a ‘thumbs up’. This Mach E Rally, for once, makes driving an EV feel…cool

Case in point: One elderly gentleman on a bicycle, pedalled over to me as I was getting in said the following:

‘‘Man, that is cool. It looks like what we did back in the 70s! With the yellow paint and those racing stripes! Wow! I like it. Very cool man…very cool’’

Very cool indeed.

This Mach E Rally is so good that if you’re in the market for a Mach E GT, skip over the ‘plain’ GT and head straight over the Rally. It’s worth every single penny.

The Great

— Looks

This thing looks gnarly! It’s like a throwback to the 70s with the wild yellow paint job and black racing strips. Then add in some early 2000s rally inspired wheels, foglights and wing…you have a combination that looks like nothing else on the road!

— Suspension

Brilliantly tuned to deliver gravel crunching excitement along with smooth road manners with enough rebound to jump over stuff!

The Good

— Power

With 700 ft/lbs of torque on instant release by your right foot, the Mach E Rally is stupidly quick! Like neck snappingly quick.

— Power Distribution

The way the Mach E Rally puts it power down is another fun advantage, actually it’s more of a Mach E thing. Put your foot down coming out of the corner, you will get a slide as long as your brave to hold it. It’s a riot.

The Disappointing

— Interior blandness

Other than the hard backed bucket seats in the Rally, the Mach E just has a drab, unremarkable and uninspring interior. The fit and finish is excellent, it’s just a monochromatic boring place to be.

The Ugly

Range

We barely got 200 miles on a charge. The saving grace is that Ford’s EVs are the only ones that can charge as quick as they are advertised to do. We pulled 135 kWh while charging on a 190 kWh station.

The same station could barely pull 90 kWh on a BMW i5 we tested a few weeks prior.

The Overall

The 2024 Ford Mustang Mach E Rally, brings something sorely missing from the majority of EVs, which is:

Not taking itself seriously. It’s a laugh. It’s fun. It’s a bit ridiculous and with that it’s the best Mach E you can buy and one of the best EVs on the road today
