What is it? A sadly defunct icon of compact performance from a bygone era where an American manufacturer poured money into a market that never reciprocated.

The Good: A sledgehammer of an engine that delivers wave after wave of power on top of a crescendo of backfire, spits and crackles. That engine is bolted a 6 speed transmission with a perfectly weighted clutch. Add the fact you have the versatility of a 5 door hatch…it’s almost perfect.

The Bad: A plasticky interior, rubbery shifter and a bouncy ride.

Overall: The bad is merely nitpicking because the good completely pummels it. This is one of the best driving machines I have ever experienced. The steering is telepathic, the power is perfect and the drivability is frankly very easy. If you wanted a vehicle that could do it all…this was your choice.
