Body on frame SUVs are a dying breed….is what they want you to believe. In the era of cheap gas the remaining body on frame SUVs are selling in droves. Tahoes, Yukons and Expeditions are cash cows and Ford is not going to rest on its laurels. Newly and thoroughly updated for 2018, the Expedition finally delivers on the interior side of the house while also making itself bigger and lighter.
As you probably know the Expedition is based on the new F150 and with it, you get an aluminum body, updated interior and more room in the 3rdrow. Switching to an aluminum body saves around 400 pounds and behind the wheel, the weight savings is quite noticeable. It is planted, eager to turn in and genuinely kind of fun to drive. The twin turbo 6 makes 400 horsepower and 480 ft/lbs of torque and the power is available at given speed. We were also averaging about 17mpg in mixed driving.
As for the interior, it borrows heavily from the F series and that is not a bad thing. The F150 has one of the most modern looking, best finished interiors in truckdom, and it is a gigantic leap over the previous generation. The seats are comfortable, offers to cool, heat, and massage your beehind and there is plenty of room in all 3 rows.
All in all this is a handsome, comfortable, large, powerful family truckster. Therefore, if you are looking for a bit more personality than your average 3 row crossover…the 2018 Ford Expedition is your answer.
