Don't be a cheap ass like me
Now we come to the point of our story where we talk about wheels. The one thing you can do that will instantly change the look, feel and the way you look at your car.
I’ll be honest, I tried to cheap out. I bought a set of wheels off of Audizine that were uber cheap. They were 21 inches, so I could use the tires I already have on the car. Heck, with the money saved…I could even get them powder coated! Sure, I could’ve listened to Ben over at Nemesis Autosport who said the OZ wheels were a bit soft and had some bending issues…but nope, I said ‘frack it’.
So my cheap ass did just the opposite of what the Audi wheel guru said and bought a sell of used wheels…from Canada-land. To ship down to Georgia. You can probably see where this story is going.
Welp, I had the wheels get delivered to my boy Ashton at The Flower Shop to get powder coated. Ashton help find me a sublime color called Bronze Chrome from Prismatic Colors. What he turned out was a piece of art!
So, got the spectacular looking wheels back and got them mounted up over at Butler Tire in Marietta. The results are below:
It wasn’t all rosy at the ‘premier’ tire shop in Atlanta. First, they were missing my appointment in the system, so what should have taken about an hour took literally 6 hours instead…and upon checking twice with the techs if the wheels were in good shape…got nothing but ‘They roll smooth!’
Yeah…no
Driving back to my home, the vibrations was profound… So, turned my happy ass back around and returned to the tire shop. They respun the wheels and lo and behold…they stated there was a ‘wobble’
“Me: How are the wheels? No bends or anything?
Butler Tire: They roll fine! No vibrations whatsoever
Me: **10 minutes down the highway**
...uh huh, welp that was a lie”
So the fine folks over at Butler Tire, shoved the two ‘wobbly’ wheels to the rear and sent me on my way. The second I got to my house, I emailed Ben over at Nemesis and purchased another set of wheels.
A set of wheels that I should have gotten in the first place. A set of wheels made by the premier wheel brand that everyone from NASCAR to Automakers trust…
