Right now it’s early July 2022. Gas is over $5.00 a gallon, there is ridiculous inflation at every realm of life and everyone is preparing for an impending economic collapse.
So to say that everyone is bit on edge…is a bit of an understatement. What in the name of frack does that have to do with a Miata you say?
Well if you want to look at all of this from a solely Automotive Industry point of view, the march of ‘EVness’ has turned into a tsunami. Manufacturers are ditching gas powered vehicles at an accelerated rate and introducing new EV models every other week.
So if you wanted to do logical thing…then you would ditch every model that doesn’t sell in the ‘droves’ and pour all of your resources into dozens of EV Crossovers. That would be the key to success….but at the risk of your soul.
So Mazda, in true spirit, remains steadfast to the Miata. Well it ever be an EV vehicle? Possibly. A hybrid is more likely but regardless looking through it’s 30 year history, the Miata has faced this situation before and came out the otherside actually better for it!
Every generation of the MX5/Miata has faced worldwide challenges from the takeover of the crossover, economic strife, war and even plague…the resulting new generation Miata rises like a Phoenix from it’s ashes. So while this ND generation MX5/Miata is in it’s twilight years…let us look fondly at the past, appreciate the present and look forward brightly to the future of this amazing sports car.
